SF recruits Psychiatrists (M/F) for its projects in Tanzania
Duration of assignmemnt: Minimum 3 months

Main Purpose
As an MSF Psychiatrist, your role will be to propose, implement and improve treatments for patients with
mental health conditions, using strategies and tools adapted to the context and culture.
Main Accountabilities
• Provide treatment for patients suffering from severe and common psychiatric disorders, paying special attention
to the cultural context
• Participate as a member of the mental health team when present and offer supervision and support to national
psychologists and counsellors
• Ensure that guidelines and psychotropic medications from the MSF standard drug list are available in the project
• Ensure that proper data regarding treatments and follow up are collected (for the purpose of monitoring the
provision of care)
• Evaluate psychiatric services available in-country, including possibilities for psychiatric hospitalisation, and the
quality of those services
• Establish collaboration/communication with medical specialties in order to achieve a multi-disciplinary approach
to patient care
• Train and supervise national and international staff in the diagnosis and treatment of severe and common
mental health disorders according to MSF guidelines
• Form a relationship with MoH and exploration of sustainability of psychiatric treatment..
Requirements
Education Psychiatry specialisation diploma required
Experience Desirable experience of working with vulnerable populations, in violent contexts, intercultural
exposure, treating patients and experience with cognitive behavioural techniques and counselling
Languages Working knowledge of English and/or French; any other languages are an asset (Spanish,
Portuguese, Arabic, Russian).
